The Hunter's Moon
There has been a lot of reseach done in recent years regarding the moon's influence on whitetail deer activity. One of the biggest mysteries that researchers and hunters have been trying to piece together is the timing of the rut as it relates to moon phase.
Many hunters talk about the "hunters moon". This is the second full moon after the autumnal equinox, better known as the first day of fall, which is on September 22. The hunters moon usually occurs during the first or second week of November.
The seeking phase of the rut usually peaks three to four days before the hunters moon and lasts until two or three days after. This is a fantastic time to hunt as bucks are on the move through funnels and along rub lines while they check scrapes. They aren't chasing every doe in the woods just yet so their patterns are still a little bit more predictable.
TrophyBuckSecrets.com has a moon gadget toward the bottom of the right nav panel of our home page, and a handy moon phase calendar that you can use to help plan your hunts. Check it out here:
